PHOTOGRAPHY in INDIA
I have traveled in India during 2009 and 2010 intensively because of my work in textile industry. During my visits to various locations, I have noticed very old workshops, where people worked with very old techniques. They were using wooden loom machines to weave, hand driven punching machines, yarn spinning with self made spinning apparatus. The typical characteristic is lighting conditions. They have mostly only one light bulb, which was just illuminating the work area. The surrounding area was very dark. This generated a very special effect. I always wanted to stop and photograph such workshop and the people to document this almost extinct way of working. India is amazing in this sense. Some people keep doing the their work the way it was long time ago. They struggle for survival. Some of the people we conversed with have told us that they would be the last one in such work style. The new comers have no interest in such work. Such people create almost a time machine for a photographer. I have taken all these photos in Delhi, especially the old part of Delhi. I have allocated two days for photography. During such a short time, I was able to produce many photos. I would not be able to it alone. One of my very old friend Anurag Sidh has guided me and most importantly communicated with the people. He was the catalyser between the subject and my photography. I would like to extend my thanks to Anurag and his lovely family.
